Our San Francisco Movement Practice community inquires with the body and movement to learn about learning.
We study and play inside various tasks, games, and puzzles, then adapt or discard them to suit our needs. The approaches are methodological, but there is no fixed method.
Some of the subjects in classes include: strength development, mobility, joint resiliency, somatics, dance, improvisation, coordination, rhythm, athletics, handbalancing, acrobatics, locomotion, and partnered work.
Neither prior experience, nor a perfectly functioning body is required from you. Processes are tailored to fit the individuals involved in them. Whether you can do one arm handstands, or have only one arm: you are welcome to join.
MOVING TOGETHER
Movement, practice, and community belong together.
People in our community range from their early 20s to their 60s. Some people have prior athletic backgrounds like basketball, yoga, dance, bodywork, crossfit, martial arts. Others just rolled off the couch. We have professional trainers and amateur athletes, new parents and old souls.
Our learning processes support one another's. Practicing together, the effect isn't just additive, it's synergistic.
`group Sessions
Group sessions usually research and develop two main subjects. Over the course of several weeks, these subjects gradually evolve into more complex projects.
For example: the arc of an acrobatic project could evolve from specific joint preparation and mobilizations, to specific skill development and technical refinement, to structured improvisation tasks using the skills developed.
The majority of class time is carved out for physical participation. There is a supportive amount of explanation and theoretical discussion.
